Recent Climate Analysis – Drastic and Uneven Change to Climate

climate-change

In a recent Washington Post analysis of climate change over 100 years, the results show clearly of a pattern of accumulated Northwest changes which can only be said to be widely uneven and drastic. Overall the Northwest is being held by weather patterns which indicate a swell of increased heat rising across states in Summer, but also a steady pattern of heat prevailing and rising earlier in winters over a prolonged period. The entire analysis was carried out over a period extending from 1895 to 2018 and the changes that were indicated ranged from 0-2 degrees centigrade with each degree again demarcated by half degrees (0.0,0.5,1.0,1.5,2.0) Though this analysis was exhaustive temperatures for Hawaii and Alaska were not recorded.

NOAA Data Findings

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has reported for the annual temperatures for 48 of the continent and individual counties representing 3,107 along with the lower states; the dates reported, as mentioned are recorded back to as early as 1895. The entire period in which these temperatures were calculated took in data that covered the 124-year interval of data available. The Washington Post made these calculations based upon their internal statistical calculations from the data findings. After the calculations were complete the data was then mapped over the lower 48 states to show the changes.

Uneven Warming

The very first finding according to calculations and mappingshowed that there are pockets of uneven warming, with the extreme being as much as 2.0 Celcius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) indicating some of the extreme warmings in areas. While these extreme patterns appeared consistently over the entire range of years, there were other areas, which showed no heat changes at all, but remained consistent throughout or even showed some slight cooling in the same areas over those 124 years. An average of the entire 48 states was calculated to be very close to 1-degree Celcius, with the anomalies of a few spikes rising as much as 2.0 degrees over that period.

Warming Clear in Large Regions

Climatologist caution that it is hard to document any conclusions about changes in smaller areas because of the complexities in accurately doing readings on variabilities or multiple factors uncontrollable or unverifiable. However, is that very clear that the areas of most consistent change occurred over larger areas of the 48 states measured and documented over 124 years and in these large areas there were consistent areas of warming? Though the changes were easily analyzed within the range of data, there were no causes given of the why these large areas, like the Northeastern areas of the United States, as well as states running along the Canadian border like Wyoming, Utah, or Colorado.

The Question of Cause

Finding the causes of these changes was not part of the Washingon Post calculated analysis of the data given by NOAA. Only a conjecture could be made about the rises of these temperatures in the Northeast such as the rise of urbanization or air pollution with pollutants being added to the air quality over the 124 years.
The Washinton Post did give a possible source or cause of these changes as being the result of human-fueled being associated as a key factor to be considered.

Northeastern Winter Transformation

Both the Northeast and the SOuthwest have revealed some of the most drastic areas that have transformed over 60 years, with the Northeast being an increased warmth during winter. Both these quickly changing areas had one other similarity which was either densely populated or no population at all over these periods of analysis. The Washington Post concluded that no direct relationship could be conjectured because of the density of population in the Northeast or Southwest areas, which ultimately rules out urbanization as a cause of these warming trends. As a note to the Washington Post analysis, NOAA doesn’t rule out Urbanization as a cause, since it has not released any final analysis as a probable cause for these measured changed according to the observable data.

New York and Los Angeles

There are larger cities within these larger areas that show consistent warming, like Los Angeles and New York, though no statistical or scientific conclusion has been drawn that these metropolitan areas had any bearing upon the entire areas temperature increase. Experts, at this time, can only speculate that they “might contribute,” as the reported to the Post. Lastly, the number of people that have been affected by these changes is in the area of 30 million. The present report didn’t indicate how many counties the 30 million people covered, but most probably the entire Southwest and Northeast areas from which this area is referring. The increase was 2 degrees Celcius for the entire are and the changes were rapid ranging from 1894-2018.

Impact of Climate Change

The $64 million questions were also asked, which is what changes has this temperature change caused. In short, yes they did have an impact. Secondly, yes they did in specific areas; lastly, yes they did impact specific production qualities. The report pointed to agriculture have been affected greatly, which are showing scientifically recorded shifts in the seasons.

Agricultural Changes

This would affect the times of crops being harvested, the types of insects that affect certain crops throughout the year, and agriculture being more effected by pests during crop maturation cycles. Agricultural pest effect more than agriculture, since they can also affect other human qualities of life as well. These are only surface findings at present, which the Post points out. There are changes which affect more than what meets the naked eye, and an exhaustive discovery of the changes will take much more robust and scientific analysis from the data and other findings.

Human Fueled Causes?

While the change in data over as long as 100 years doesn’t seem to have a bearing on the well-being of the planet, this report at least shows that though specific causes are not pointed out, specific human-fueled causes could eventually be the key cause of many of these changes. With our agriculture being the most effective human commodity and natural resource the study give a big caution to how human interaction with nature could show a greater need for respecting natural resources more can also mean a safer and more productive life for human well being for the future. In other words, climate change is a serious matter that needs to be considered and how we interact with the planets natural resources can have a direct bearing on future generations.
